Transformative conversations to help you succeed on your academic journey
“The academic career conversations resources have been crucial to the development of my career. They helped me to crystallise who I am – as an academic, my brand, what I stand for, and helped me to surface my beliefs, my values, and to become aware of my style. They helped me to see that I was spending too many hours on things that don’t provide the most valuable focus and that I needed to pivot to fill the gaps that would help me to achieve my career goals. I realised that I was looking at things through a lens that was too black and white.
What was helpful was having access to the resources and having someone to talk them through with. Since I started using the resources, I’ve been promoted to Professor, and more recently to Deputy Dean.”
Professor Ann Luce, Deputy Dean
Designed to be flexible
These academic career conversations can be used by individual academics, coaches, mentors, line managers and developers – with individuals and in groups. It is possible to work through all the conversations in the order they are presented, or to simply pick and choose those most relevant at any given point. They can inform a conversation with someone else, or as a reflection tool to be used by an individual.
The tool is not grade or competency based and so is relevant for a range of backgrounds and career stages.
